Drive By Shooting Suspect in Custody and Appears in Court
YUMA, AZ - Tyre Hendrix is facing multiple charges after allegedly shooting up a local neighborhood, leading officers on a police chase and then driving his vehicle into this canal before taking off on foot.
In court Monday afternoon a compliant Hendrix appeared before Judge Gregory Stewart shortly after turning himself in just before noon. Police say victims identified Hendrix as the shooter who fired three to five shots in the area of 5th Street and 10th Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday.
In court, state prosecutors revealed new information saying "On the night in question Mr. Hendrix became involved in a dispute within a residence in our community. He was asked to leave that residence. He did. A short time later he returned. "It was at that point Hendrix showed up in a vehicle and fired shots in the direction of the victims and took off.
According to the Yuma Police Department YCSO deputies in the area gave chase to Hendrix leading them to the 2400 block of the west main canal. Hendrix drove into a gate, jumped out of the car and took off on foot before it went straight into the water. Hendrix now faces numerous charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm at a residence.
The state asked Judge Stewart to make considerations when making bond by saying "Given that there are eye witnesses that put Mr. Hendrix at the party, given that evidence would reveal there is an eyewitness that can identify Mr. Hendrix as the shooter, given that the car he left in matches the description of the car at the scene of the shooting and given also that Mr. Hendrix attempted to flea a pursuing law enforcement vehicle the state would argue that shows consciousness of guilt."
Hendrix's bond is set at $500,000 and he will appear back in court later this week.
