Move to new Library location almost complete

Posted: Updated:

EL CENTRO - The El Centro City Library is almost ready but they still some help from the community.

Construction on the new location is done, now they are just working on getting all the books stocked on the shelves.

Quite the task as the library has over 100,000 books to stock.

Most of those books have been in storage for over 2 years, since the earthquake destroyed the old library located at the El Centro Community Clinic.

According to Library Director, Roland Banks, they were planning on just fixing the old location but it would've been very expensive.

City workers and volunteers have been working on getting all the books shelved but they need more people to help.

Roland says he is excited about the opening of new location as 2 years was a long time waiting.

If you want to help out the library you can go to the new location any day of the week from 8am to 5pm.

The new address is 1140 Imperial Ave. in between El Centro and Imperial.
