Much anticipated Brawley Bypass opened to traffic

BRAWLEY - The much anticipated Brawley Bypass is now officially open for traffic flow.

The highway was just opened to motorists around 1:45 on Tuesday afternoon.

Caltrans and construction workers out there on Tuesday morning, putting the finishing touches on the bypass that will provide the city with an expressway from Highway 86 to Highways 78 and 111.

The bypass will also serve as an alternate route for commercial trucks and motorists, thus improving the flow of international goods between California and Mexico.

According to Caltrans, almost 37 million vehicle trips are made annually between the Imperial Valley and Mexico.

The bypass will relieve the traffic congestion in Downtown Brawley putting fewer lives at risk in the busy area.
