John Dilan
EL CENTRO, CA- The victim of home burglary helps police catch the suspect.
El Centro police say the homeowner drove up to his residence Wednesday morning and saw a man leaving with some of his tools.
They say the homeowner called police and gave a description of the suspect while using his car to chase after the suspect.
An officer arrested the suspect, 25 year old John Dilan, in the 400 block of Aurora Drive.
Dilan, a transient, was identified by the victim as the suspect who stole $500 worth of hand tools from his home in the 900 block of south Third Street.
He was booked into Imperial County Jail on a residential burglary charge. Dilan remains behind bars on $50,000 bond.
Police say he has prior arrests for theft related charges.
"Fortunately the victim was generally able to keep sight of the suspect as he tried to escape, and the victim also did a good job of updating the police on the suspect's whereabouts", said Commander Jeff Mason. "Unfortunately, the suspect hid the stolen tools and those were not found", Mason said.
