Lawrence HendrixIMPERIAL, CA- An Imperial Middle School P. E. teacher has been arrested for being in possession of a controlled substance.
Dan Romeo was arrested by Imperial police Sunday around 2 a.m. after someone called in a suspicious vehicle parked near a canal in the area of La Brucherie and Threshill Roads.
Police say he and another man, Lawrence Hendrix, were in a vehicle at the time and are suspected of being under the influence. They say officers found a narcotic substance, similar to heroin, on both men.
Romeo and Hendrix were booked into Imperial County Jail. They have since been released pending the outcome of the narcotic in question.
Imperial School District Superintendent Lisa Tabarez says Romeo has worked at the school district as a physical education teacher for 23 years.
She says he's been out of the classroom since the beginning of the school for personnel reasons.
Tabarez says the school district is looking into Romeo's arrest and the allegations against him. She says they will determine if any action will be taken against Romeo after the investigation is complete.
