Somerton woman dies in two vehicle crash, another injured

YUMA, AZ- A two vehicle crash claims the life of a Somerton woman and leaves a Yuma man in critical condition.

It happened Tuesday night at the intersection of Avenue C and W. County 13th Street.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office says 23 year old Arlyn Alvarez was eastbound on W. County 13th Street when she failed to yield at a stop sign causing a Toyota to strike her drivers side door.

Both vehicles came to a rest off the roadway in a field.

Alvarez was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died of her injuries.

42 year old Ernesto Guijarro was driving the Toyota, he was taken to the hospital with major injuries.

The collision remains under investigation.

YCSO says alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
