EL CENTRO - The new public library in El Centro opened its doors this morning. The grand opening included a performance by the Central Union High School band, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Some upgrades from the old library include WI-FI access to library card holders, tutors for general education, and additional computers.
It took more than 80 volunteers and city workers to move more than 100,000 books to the new location. Most of those books have been in storage for more than two years. The old library was destroyed in the Easter Sunday earthquake of 2010.
El Centro Mayor Sedalia Sanders says the new location and upgrades will greatly benefit the community.
The library will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock in the evenings. On Fridays, it will be open from 9 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock in the evenings.
