YUMA, AZ - Flags were raised Sunday morning at Faith Baptist Church for a special ceremony in honor of Veterans Day.
A 21 gun salute took place, a playing of taps as well as the singing of the national anthem were all part of the ceremony. Many local officials showed up for the event to give thanks and show their appreciation to the armed forces past and present. All veterans in attendance were given a free gift and a complimentary lunch.
Sgt. Ryan Fife of the U.S. Marine Corps tells News 13, "It's a very good feeling to know that a local church is so supportive of its military services not just the Marine Corps alone. It's very humbling to be in the presence of so many prior enlisted prior officers of all branches and it's a very good feeling to know we are surrounded by those to support what we do local and overseas."
This was the sixth year the church has hosted Veterans Appreciation Day in Yuma.
