Yuma - Firefighters have been cleared from the scene of a huge produce packing plant fire.
Today's scene was a stark contrast from yesterday afternoon's.
Wednesday's blaze destroyed three buildings and injured two people, sending a towering column of thick black smoke into the air. But firefighters were able to protect the area housing large containers of ammonia.
Charly McMurdie of Rural Metro says fire crews were cleared around one o'clock this afternoon, but they're still keeping an eye on the smoldering debris.
"At this time, the only thing we're doing is patrolling the area where about every hour or so we go out and check on it; make sure nothing has changed," explained McMurdie.
Light smoke still rises from the collapsed buildings, but McMurdie says there's no reason for people not to return to the area, unless they have known health issues the smoke would aggravate.
