Since its inception, the Jersey Strong Foundation has grown to become a charitable organization larger than the Roma Family could have ever imagined. They now face an unimaginable challenge.
Wall, New Jersey (PRWEB) November 30, 2012
In the face of historic and unimaginable adversities, the Jersey Strong foundation, a 501[c]3 non-profit organization started by Mary and Stephen Roma. As the founders of Work Out World, Wall, NJ residents and the head of a family that has offered nothing short of tireless dedication to the transformation in the lives for many Jersey residents to date, “Jersey Strong”—a phrase trademarked by Work Out World’s gyms in New Jersey—is the only lifestyle they know.
And now in the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s wrath, with the Hurricane Season for 2012 ending and a recovery process that could very well ride into the next season, the Jersey Strong foundation is dedicated to the rebuilding effort. With a goal of raising $1 Million within the next year, the Jersey Strong foundation will not stray in face from adversity, aiming to shape up the shore just as any other member of a Work Out World Wall, NJ location. “We really want the foundation to be successful because of the good deeds it will do,” says Mr. Roma.
For the Roma family, “Jersey Strong”—has meant more than a phrase. With even Governor Chris Christie himself quoting it in a fashion reminiscent to the Queen of England’s call to “keep calm” through the long nights of the London bombings amidst the peak of the second World War. "Who would have thought that a catchy fitness slogan that we developed years ago, like JERSEY STRONG, would now become the mantra of our State of New Jersey as we face historic adversity. It was a natural and perfect fit for our family's Jersey Strong Foundation to take on the cause of helping to rebuild, restore, maintain and enhance the Jersey Shore," says Mary Roma, proud Founder and Owner of Jersey Strong.
Four years ago, the Roma family began the Jersey Strong foundation with an initial contribution of $10,000 from the family business. The purpose, to build strength from within with inspiration and assistance outside of the gyms, has stepped up for a whole new success story: a rechristening of a stronger Jersey Shore built from the sands up. Since the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, the Jersey Strong Foundation has answered the call, offering help to statewide emergency power generator loan programs, supply distribution centers, as well as going hand-in-hand with various charitable organizations helping to rebuild affected local communities scattered along the Jersey Shore.
With over 10 clubs and over 70,000 members, there isn’t a single paid or staff member within Work Out World who has not felt the effects of the storm. Ravaged with damages, for many residents it’s a time to start over—especially those who have lost it all. But to Stephen and Mary, Jersey Strong is about building a character that never surrenders to the uncertainties of the strongest winds from a foundation firmer than any material can structure a house or building with. A degree of strength as Mrs. Roma puts it, “From the heart.” While an ambitious and audacious goal of $1 Million, it’s the difference-making in as many lives as possible that counts in ways dollars cannot dictate.
