CBP: border patrol agent shoots armed bandit

YUMA, AZ - A Yuma Border Patrol agent patrolling near Gila Bend Tuesday night shot an armed bandit crossing through the desert.

Border patrol says agents confronted two men.

One of them was armed with an assault rifle, the other with a handgun. That's when the agent opened fire shooting one of the bandits.

Border patrol says the armed illegal immigrant was flown to a Phoenix hospital. He is expected to survive.

The other bandit was taken into custody.
