El Centro Firefighters hit streets to collect donations for MDA

EL CENTRO - In an effort to raise funds for the muscular dystrophy association, firefighters across the Imperial Valley have hit the streets to try to collect donations over the last month.

This weekend, it was the El Centro Fire Department's turn to take part in the "Fill-the-Boot" Campaign.

Several firefighters from ECFD Station Number 1, positioned themselves on the corner of Adams and Imperial Avenue with their boots in hand.

They held them out as motorists drove by and dropped in donations.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association serves over one thousand families in the Imperial Valley.

M.D.A. fundraising coordinator Alex Heckman says that the El Centro Fire Department has been a strong partner in the fight against muscular disease for more than 25 years.

"They've been coming out for more than 25 years now", she says. "They come out here and hit the streets with their boots in hand and collect donations from passing motorists and it's all in the name of finding a cure and treatment for Muscular Dystrophy so we're really grateful".

The "Fill-the-Boot" campaign started in November and has already raised more than 6 thousand dollars.
