Niland - The California Department of Public Health, the Imperial County Health Department and the Golden State Water Company are advising customers in Niland to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking.
They say the advisory issued on Monday is a safety precaution due to damage to a water line caused by a contractor doing work for another company.
Tap water should be boiled for a full minute before using. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
Customers in Niland should do so until tests reveal the water is safe to drink. The problem is expected to be resolved within 48 hours.
