Yuma Vigil Sends Thoughts, Prayers to CT Shooting Survivors

YUMA - The crowd tonight consisted largely of parents and their children. They huddled in candlelight and in each others' arms … perhaps a little tighter than usual.

People showed up for tonight's vigil to send a message back to the students, parents and teachers in Connecticut. The message is short and sweet, you are not alone. The vigil began at 9 o'clock this evening at place at Smucker's Park. It will run until 11 this evening.

It's located at Avenue A and 28th Street.

The event was put together by a local youth pastor, Robert Vazquez.

He wanted to bring the community together to share their thoughts, prayers and hopes with the Connecticut community devastated by a senseless act of violence against the most innocent of us all: our children.

The vigil was held on the park's playground. People lit candles and held white balloons in memory of the young lives snuffed out by today's bullets.

Video of tonight's vigil will be posted on YouTube for the Connecticut school and community affected by today's horrific shooting.

Anyone interested in seeing it, can go to YouTube.com and search for "Connecticut, Yuma Is With You."

Vazquez hopes to have it posted later tonight.
