PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona is joining a national day of remembrance for the Connecticut elementary school shooting victims with a moment of silence and tolling of bells.
Gov. Jan Brewer says the quiet moment to mark a week after the killings will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
She is also asking houses of worship and government buildings to ring their bells 26 times if they can. That's once each for the 20 children and six women killed by a gunman at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
The proclamation was issued in response to a request by Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy for a "Day of Mourning" for the shooting victims.
