Shanghai
China – Fifteen people were injured when a 33-ton shark aquarium at a Shanghai shopping
center burst spilling gallons of water on unsuspecting shoppers. The 7 meter
long, three meter high aquarium broke Tuesday December 18th. The
collapse is being blamed by the combination of the weak materials of this shark
tank and the cold temperature.
Eight
shopping center workers and seven shoppers were injured when the shark tank
exploded and scattered shards of glass up to 20 centimeters in size. All of
those injured sustained cuts; one shopper suffered bone fractures and had to be
sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The
three lemon sharks that were housed in the aquarium did not survive. The tank
also held other fish and turtles.
