Yuma, AZ- Today is New Year's Day, a day of new beginnings. That's especially true for one young man who came into the world shortly after midnight.
Raul Curiel came into this world around 8am, he is the first baby to be born in 2013 in Yuma County at the Yuma Regional Medical Center.
His mother Evelina says she feels so blessed to have a healthy baby. He came in weighing in at 6 pounds 3 ounces and he's 19 inches.
Evelina says he is her second child. She has another son who she says is excited to have a little brother. The family lives in Mexicali and she says they should be heading home tomorrow.
Evelina tells News 13 it was a total surprise to give birth to the first 2013 baby in Yuma County.
A spokes person from YRMC says there were 4 other babies born so far today, but there are several more moms in labor so there could be more January 1st 2013 babies on the way.
