PHOENIX (AP) - In a move raising some eyebrows, the Salt River Project may make a $1 million donation to the host committee for the 2015 Super Bowl in Glendale.

The Arizona Republic reports that the proposed donation would consist of $225,000 cash, $575,000 of services and $200,000 in electricity.

Officials of the nonprofit municipal utility say the donation would support a community project that provides good exposure for the region and benefits its customers.

Tim Hogan of the Arizona Center for Law in the Public Interest says SRP should only spend ratepayer money for business purposes, not give it to the financially successful NFL.

SRP board members plan to review the proposal Thursday. Some say they plan to ask questions about benefits for the utility and its customers.
