Police have scaled back all-out search for prisoner who escaped from city court officers
YUMA, Ariz. (KSWT News 13) - Police do not know if escaped prison Raul Dominguez, 28, made it across into Mexico.
But police tell us they have notified Mexican police to also be on the lookout for Dominguez. He was last seen running for the border near County 9th Street on the Levee.
Multiple agencies including Yuma Police, County Sheriff's, Border Patrol and FBI agents, searched the area.
As of right now, Dominguez has not been found.
We still do not know how Dominguez escaped.
Dominguez was booked into jail the night before his escape on immigration charges and several counts of aggravated assault.
Yuma police tell us they are investigating staff procudires and are reviewing all the video captured by court cameras to determine how Dominguez managed to escape from security officers, while wearing ankle shackles.
Yuma County Sheriff's tell KSWT News 13 the escapee was picked up by Municipal Court Officers from County Jail along with nine others for their court appearances Tuesday morning.
Dominguez was inside Municipal Court when, somehow, he managed to escape and took off running, wearing his red prisoner jumpsuit and shackles.
He ran for more than half a mile, then carjacked a white mini van that was near 16th Street and Fifth Avenue.
Yuma police say Dominguez drove until he reached the area of County 9th and the levee road on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say they believe he was headed south to the border.
He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and tan pants.
KSWT News 13 also spoke to Mexican authorities, who tell us they are staying vigilant.
Again, police say if you see this man, do not approach him. Call police right away.
We will continue following any new developments and bring you the very latest as it becomes available.
