Posted: Updated:

SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KSWT News 13) - Ever wonder if a career in law enforcement might be for you?

The San Luis Police Department is now accepting applications to their Law Enforcement Explorers Program.

The program will give explorers the chance to see what a day in the life of a police officer is like, and helps the department recruit new members.

Several current San Luis officers were part of the law enforcement explorers program.

The explorers will be trained in several different aspects of police work, like: collision investigations, traffic stops, drug arrests, search warrants, burglary in progress
calls and a variety of other calls.

San Luis police will also provide demonstrations on traffic enforcement, their K-9 unit, and how the Quick Response Team works.

Explorers will be able to go on ride-alongs with police officers and put their training to use.

If you are interested in becoming an explorer, you can attend the next meeting on Monday, January 28th, 2013 at 6:00 p.m., at the police department training room.

Explorer applicants must be in high school and maintain a "C" average in all
classes.

Explorers will need to fill out an application, pass a background check, an interview, and
a driving record check (if applicable).

The program is designed for ages 14-21, San Luis police tells us applicants need to apply before turning 18 and may remain in the post until their 21st birthday.

If you are interested in becoming an explorer, stop by the San Luis Police Department to fill out an application or speak with Detective Zaragoza or Sergeant Figueroa.
