SAN LUIS, Ariz. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a 19-year-old Mexican man who tried smuggling more than 2.5 pounds of heroin through the San Luis Port of Entry.

It happened Thursday when Luis Humberto Hernandez-Romero was driving Nissan sedan through the port.

A CBP narcotics detection dog alerted officers to drugs inside of the car, and officers asked Hernendez-Romero to pull into secondary revision.

During the inspection, officers found nearly $36,000 worth of heroin inside of Hernandez’ sneakers.

Hernandez was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
