YCAT Labor Talks: Day 2

YCAT Labor Talks: Day 2

YUMA – (KSWT NEWS 13) – Day 2 of labor talks between the local bus workers' union and First Transit wrapped up around 8:30 this evening. Bus workers are demanding higher pay, more affordable medical care and better working hours.

Bob Bean, president of the bus drivers union says both sides made progress today, a stark contrast to the frustrations he expressed after yesterday's talks.

Bean says the big deal breaker on the table is the 5-day, 40-hour work week YCAT employees want.

He's also very optimistic about getting a new medical plan approved out of Mexico, similar to one in use in El Centro.

As for the bus workers' pay raise demand, Bean says both sides are moving from their original stance, but he would not be more specific.

We have also been in contact with Maureen Richmond of First Transit. She's the Public Information Officer for First Transit out of Ohio. Calls to her have not been returned since today's meeting ended.

Talks resume tomorrow morning around 9 o'clock.
