With the tagline, “Is Your Health Plan’s Accreditation behind the Times?” URAC today launched a new advertising initiative to highlight that health plans offered on new health insurance marketplaces will have a choice in accreditation, including URAC. URAC is one of the nation’s leading private accreditors of health insurance plans.
“As health plans, policymakers, and others work hard to get ready for 2014, URAC is changing with the times to offer a new choice for accreditation,” said Vernon Rowen, URAC Senior Vice President for External & Legal Affairs. “URAC’s new advertising initiative is designed to inform consumers, health plans, and policymakers that plans have a choice in accreditation for marketplace health plans.”
The advertisement serves as a timely reminder that URAC measures are publicly available and widely accepted. The advertisement also previews an upcoming, sophisticated data-analytic tool – not offered by any other accreditor – that will help pinpoint gaps in care and identify corrective action.
Beginning in 2014, health plans offered on new health insurance marketplaces must be accredited. URAC’s accreditation programs focus on the areas of greatest importance to consumers, regulators, and payers; providing timely access to services, ensuring the quality of those services, and, most importantly, protecting the interests and rights of consumers when they seek services or otherwise interact with their health plan. URAC’s process for developing accreditation standards is uniquely inclusive, actively seeking input and participation from a broad range of healthcare stakeholders, including consumers, physicians, hospitals, labor unions, pharmacists, nurses, employers, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
