Border Patrol bust driver with $980,000 in meth

SALTON CITY, Calif. – El Centro Border Patrol agents busted a smuggler with 18 pounds of meth at the Highway 86 checkpoint.

It happened Sunday at 7 a.m., after a drug-detecting dog alerted agents to a Volkswagen at the checkpoint.

The 26-year-old driver was sent to secondary inspection, where agents found 29 packages of methamphetamine hidden in the car.

The drugs weighed about 30 pounds and has an estimated street value of more than $980,000.
