Business owner pleads guilty to running a prostitution ring

SOMERTON, AZ  - A business owner pleaded guilty to running a prostitution ring out of her Somerton massage parlor.

In exchange for the plea agreement prosecutors dropped dozens of other charges against 57-year old Won Sil Shim.

According to these court documents, A judge ordered shim to pay $25,000 in restitution. Shim also faces a maximum prison sentence of up to one and a half years. Wednesday KSWT News 13 spoke to one Somerton resident who tells us she too was suspicious of shim's massage parlor. "It's a big shock it's a small community and you just don't expect those kinds of things to happen," says Elizabeth Beas.

Beas lives right down the street from where Smile Spa Salon used to be located. "It explained why no wonder nobody ever wanted to do massages on women. When I called I would always get call back later or come around later so one time I decided to drop by and they barely opened the door and said we're closed, it was like ok how do they run their business."

Beas' suspicion also caught the attention of law enforcement who started staking out smile spa salon more than three years ago. KSWT News 13 has now learned according to court documents 57-year old Won Sil Shim began using her massage parlor to run a prostitution ring in 2009. Court records also show - not one of shim's employee's was licensed by the state to give massages.

KSWT asked Beas what she thought of Shims pleas she responded "Well at least she said she was guilty. She admitted to it so I guess honest on that part."

Won Sil Shim will be sentenced in August. Again she faces up to a year and a half in prison.
