YUMA, Ariz. (KSWT News 13) - Yuma police have arrested a fourth known violent gang member who they say helped three other teens rob a woman at gunpoint last month.
Yuma police tell KSWT News 13 that when detectives went to contact 18-year-old Angel Varela, he ran away and ditched a stolen handgun.
Police recovered the weapon.
They say Varela is a known, violent gang member.
He faces multiple charges, including aggravated robbery, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
He was arrested last year for theft of a credit card.
He was released by a judge under certain conditions, which he violated.
The armed robbery happened January 19 in the 1700 Block of West Camino Kino. Three teens were arrested and charged with that armed robbery.
Seventeen-year-old Abel Ruiz, 16-year-old Anthony Michael Sanchez and 17-year-old Isaac Garcia are being tried as adults, and all three have recently been indicted by a grand jury.
The three teens are being held on $1,000,000 bond.
Varela is being held on $500,000 bond. He is due back in court Thursday afternoon.
