Sheriffs arrest man wanted for kidnapping and threatening girlfriend

YUMA, Ariz. (KSWT News 13) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office tells KSWT News 13 that the man wanted for kidnapping his girlfriend, then threatening to kill her and commit suicide, has been caught.

Deputies say that 23-year-old Gary Smith was seen walking near the Yuma Justice Center at around 7:00 a.m. this morning.

He surrendered to investigators at his attorney's office, was booked into Yuma County Jail and will be in court today.

He faces charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping, and influencing a witness.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is still looking for a person who helped Smith's girlfriend escape the domestic violence attack that happened on March 9 at the 1100 block of South Palm Avenue.
