Tuition hike for Phoenix community colleges

Tuition hike for Phoenix community colleges

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - The governing board of the Maricopa County Community College District has raised tuition by $5 per credit.

The board approved the hike by a 3-1 vote Tuesday night.

The Arizona Republic reports that it's the second increase in three years.

Students at the 10 colleges will pay $81 per credit starting this fall.

The 6.5% hike will mean that full-time students pay about $150 more per year.

The increase will raise about $12.5 million for the community colleges district, in part to make up for a steep decline in state funding.
