EL CENTRO, Calif. (KSWT News 13) - The man who was driving around town in a semitruck and knocking down powerlines is now in custody.

David Contreras, 57, was arrested after running into a fire hydrant and a wooden power pole with his semitruck on Fourth Avenue in El Centro last night.

Crews from the Imperial Irrigation District were putting up a new pole today.

Businesses and residents we spoke to didn't report any power outages.

Police pulled Contreras over on Sandalwood drive near Eigth Street.

Armed crews were called in because Contreras refused to exit the truck.

Commander Jeff Mason says the driver gave no reason for his behavior but they are testing him for being under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Contreras faces three charges, including property damage, hit-and-run, and resisting a police officer.
