24th Street construction causes traffic

Posted: Updated:

YUMA, Ariz. (KSWT News 13) - Road work has led to backed up traffic on a busy street as workers replace a waterline under 24th Street between Pacific Avenue and Arizona Avenue.

For now, there is only one lane open in each direction near the intersection of Kennedy Lane and 24th Street.

The City says the project is expected to take five months to complete.

Also, beginning April 8, the City will begin applying a slurry seal to 24th Street, from 4th Avenue to the East Main Canal.

The sealant--which is a mixture of asphalt, water, concrete and sand--will be applied overnight between 8:00 p.m. and 6 a.m. on April 8 and 9.

Residents should expect some street closures and detours during the roadwork.

Other areas and subdivisions that will be affected by the sealant program include:

  • 24th Street from Avenue A to Avenue B
  • 24th Street from Avenue A to 4th Avenue
  • Araby Estates Subdivision
  • Cresta Gila 1, 2 and 3
  • Tamarack 4 and 5
  • San Marcos Drive
  • Engler Estates
  • Westridge
  • Palmcroft
  • Palm Drive
