Armed robber flees from police and escapes by swimming across river

BLYTHE, Calif. (KSWT News 13) – Blythe police are on the lookout for a man who attempted to rob another man at gunpoint and led authorities on a high-speed chase.

It happened early Tuesday morning at around 3:30 a.m.

Police say 34-year-old Steven Beauchamp led police, Border Patrol agents and deputies on a high-speed chase after trying to rob a man at gunpoint, then fled from his car along with three others.

Everyone in the car scattered in different directions.

Three passengers were arrested, but Beauchamp swam across a river and was able to get away.

When police found the victim who was held at gunpoint, the victim mistook officers for Beauchamp and pulled a gun out on police.

Police took cover, convinced the victim to put the gun down, and secured the weapon.

The victim then told police Beauchamp had tried robbing him and was armed with a handgun.

Blythe police are now asking anyone with information on Beauchamp's whereabouts to contact them. Beauchamp is considered armed and dangerous.
