New hybrid room at Yuma Regional Medical Center's Heart Center offers most advanced technology

YUMA, Ariz. (KSWT News 13) – Yuma Regional Medical Center's Heart Center is now home to a high-tech hybrid operating room.
Starting next Monday, surgeons will be able to treat patients with cardiovascular diseases and other conditions in a single room, rather than transporting them to hospitals in other cities like they did in the past.
"Now we'll be able to treat patients with more complicated cases," said Dr. Roberto Cervera, a cardiovascular surgeon.
"We had been tackling things like aneurisms and more complicated cases in the OR with less efficient equipment," Dr. Cervera added.
Before, some procedures required patients to be transported from the Heart Center to the operating room for surgery.
Now those patients can be treated right away in emergency situations without having to be transported.
Also, surgeons, cardiologists and radiologists will be able to team up to perform the least invasive procedures as possible thanks to state-of-the-art tools and imaging.
Dr. Cervera tells us this will also draw more people to come to Yuma for healthcare.
"The moment you do a case that wasn't done before, word spreads around and suddenly you're not just capturing the market in Yuma, but you're capturing the market outside of Yuma," Dr. Cervera said.
The new hybrid operating room, which was in planning for more than a year and a half, will begin treating patients next Monday.
YRMC is now one of only two hospitals in the state with this type of advanced technology.
