Posted: Updated:

(KSWT News 13) - High winds and extreme weather conditions have made the roadways dangerous for drivers in southern Arizona.

Multiple crashes have been reported on Interstate-10 near Picacho, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Right now, the left lane eastbound on I-10 is blocked.

The westbound lane, in the same area, is completely closed to traffic.

Drivers between Phoenix and Tucson have been dealing with wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service has issued a blowing dust advisory and high-wind warning that will continue until 8:00 pm tonight.

The Arizona Department of Transportation urges drivers to pull over when dust picks up.

The department has also issued the following tips:

-Avoid driving into or through a dust storm.

-Do not wait to pull over, do it as soon as possible.

-If you encounter a dust storm, check traffic around you and begin slowing down.

-Do not stop in the emergency lane or on the road, look for a safe place to pull completely off the roadway.

-Set your emergency brake and turn off all your lights.

-Stay in your car with until the storm passes.
