Strong winds leave damages behind

EL CENTRO, California (13 On Your Side) - Yesterday's intense winds caused quite some damage across the Imperial Valley.

In El Centro, Public Works reported 11 fallen trees on Imperial Ave.

The cost to remove those trees, including labor and equipment, estimates between $6,000 and $8,000.

One large tree fell in the middle of Imperial Avenue, pulling down cable cords from the power pole with it.

City crews were out removing the trees even past their work hours.

"I had a large crew, a fairly large crew out last night," says Carl Sowler from El Centro Public Works.

"[The crews] worked five extra hours of overtime and then we were out for nine hours today. We had two crews out for nine hours today."

Among the damage caused by the winds was a power outage in Brawley.

Up to 740 residents were without power for three hours.

Winterhaven also experienced a power outage. They were without power for up to seven hours. Power has since been restored.
