BRAWLEY, Calif. (13 On Your Side) - Brawley police have arrested an arson suspect in connection to a string of fires that torched several trash bins and palm trees throughout the downtown area on Wednesday.

20-year-old Fernando Garcia is behind bars, accused of setting at least seven fires.

Police say Garcia started the fires within six hours of each other.

Flames from several of the fires came close to nearby homes causing some residents to fear for their safety.

During the course of the investigation, police were able to identify Garcia in video surveillance captured at one of the locations where a fire was started.

The Brawley Police Department is continuing its investigation to determine if there's a connetion between Garcia and four teenage boys who were also arrested for arson last week.

In that case, police say the four teens burglarized several businesses and then set them on fire, including A-Plus Furniture Store that burned down two weeks ago.
