Immigration reform advocates rally through cemetery

HOLTVILLE, Calif. (13 On Your Side) - Immigrant's rights advocates passed through Imperial County to drum up support for immigration reform.

They say it will help end the increase in the number of migrants who are dying crossing the desert.

Border Angels held a rally at Terrace Park, a cemetery in Holtville.

Mercedes Moreno says her son, Jose, tried crossing the border to reunite with her almost 25 years ago, but he has disappeared and has never been heard from again.

Moreno says immigration reform will keep her hopes alive that one day she will be able to find her son.

"I hope one day, I don't know when, I don't know how, but the faith and hope is what's keeping me alive. Every day to keep looking for my son."

Imperial Valley is the center for agriculture in Southern California.

Hundreds of migrant deaths are reported in this region every single year.
