Marine Corps Air Station Yuma holds annual job fair

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – Several employers were recruiting potential employees at the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma's annual job fair today.

13 On Your Side attended and spoke to one local marine looking for employment as he prepares to go out into the Yuma area and work as a civilian.

After 20 years in the Marines, Staff Sergeant Neal Johnson will be leaving this October.

Today, he took full advantage of the job fair to see what kind of job opportunities are out there.

Johnson says his ideal job would be doing something to help others, like counseling or advising.

However, he explored his options and stopped by several booths to talk to different employers.

He wants to stay local, despite Yuma's high unemployment rate.

Johnson says most of the time people just don't know of all the job opportunities in Yuma, and job fairs--like the one at MCAS—are extremely beneficial for people looking for jobs in a variety of fields.

"Some are not aware of what opportunities [exist] and they don't know where to search for the job or or they don't know what the job title is all about so they don't apply," said Staff Sergeant Johnson.

Johnson says he will be applying for jobs in the following months as he gets ready for life as a civilian.
