3-year-old drowns in family pool: neighbors saddened by the news

Yuma, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) - "I knew something was going on," said a neighbor of the three-year-old who drowned earlier this week, "I had no idea what it was."

The resident, who did not want her name released, is a neighbor living near the 4000 Block of Sunflower Drive in Yuma.

She lives ionly a few houses down from where three-year old drowned in his family's pool Monday morning.

The neighbor tells 13 on Your Side she immediately became concerned when she saw police and yellow caution tape blocking off her neighbors home.

"When we found out, we just felt horror and shock."

She did not know her neighbors too well but often saw the little boy playing outside.

"A little boy would come out and say hello to my daughter. My daughter is shy, she wouldn't respond, and then he would call her weird. It was cute."

Police responded to the home around 10:00 am Monday morning.

Police say the 3-year old victim was found unresponsive in the family pool.

The child was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center where doctors pronounced him dead.

As the mother of a young child herself, the neighbor says she can't imagine the pain the family must be going through.

She says this incident makes her want to hold her 18-month-old daughter much closer tonight and always.

"It's just tragic, I feel bad for the parents of the little boy....That's the thing, they will never see their own little boy and they're constantly going to be reminded of it by all the little kids running around in this neighborhood. I don't think the parents are really at fault accidents unfortunately happen."
