(13 On Your Side) - Law enforcement and the Arizona Highway Patrol Association are saddened by the loss of Officer Tim Huffman, who was killed while on duty after a crash near Wellton last night.

Huffman, 47, was on scene helping to investigate an injury collision on interstate 8, about 40 miles east of Yuma, when a truck failed to yield at a closed lane on the highway.

The driver of the semi-truck, 33-year-old Jorge Espinoza, first crashed into DPS Captain George Anderson's parked patrol car, which then crashed into Huffman's patrol car.

He died from the impact.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, as of today, law enforcement fatalities are up 21%.

Huffman's death happened the same day the Arizona Highway Patrol Association paid their respects to the 28 DPS officers killed in the line of duty during their yearly fall officer memorial.

"It is heartbreaking that we have to add another name to our memorial this year, said Sgt. Jimmy Chavez, President of the AHPA, in a press release.
