DPS officers mourn death of fellow co-worker who died in crash

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) - "It's like losing a family member, that's exactly what it feels like, it's just devastating," said Robert Halliday, Director of Arizona DPS.

He says he had just attended a memorial in Phoenix, honoring officers who have died in the line of duty, when he learned one of his own officers Tim Huffman died, after a tanker truck slammed into his patrol car.

"At first it was unbelievable, you almost go into denial and then your start managing your way through it and dealing with it," said Halliday.

Halliday says Huffman's sudden and tragic death is a tremendous loss for all who knew him.

Huffman spent most of his life dedicated to serving and protecting his fellow Americans as a police officer - and a soldier fighting a war in Iraq.

Huffman spent the last 14 years of his life working for DPS in the Yuma District.

"Everybody is just taken back by this, the laughter at the office has subsided everyone is in a somber mood, trying to figure out how they are going to manage their way through this," said Halliday.

He says right now all thoughts and prayers are especially for Huffman's family.
