Local school kids experience what it's like to be a Marine

YUMA, AZ - Hundreds of school kids experienced first hand what it's like to be a marine today.

Marine Corps Air Station Yuma hosted its first ever "Intro to Devil Dogs 101"The series of drills includes a mini-combat fitness test and over 250 kids participated

The Marine Corp air station says many of the students are military children and today's demonstration gives them a chance to share their mom or dad's military experience.

Dropping down and giving 20 is just part of the fitness test these elementary kids had to go through as part of their mini combat fitness training.

Marines and sailors also taught them about explosives and the importance of bomb sniffing dogs and how to use a compass to navigate on land. The goal is to help kids have a better understanding of what it takes to be in the military defending our country.

The students were also given a tour of the flight line to get a close up of fighter jets.

They ended the day eating lunch with marines.
