Border Patrol busts cocaine load worth nearly $1 million

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side)A Yuma Border Patrol Sector drug-sniffing K-9 team stopped a smuggler's from transporting $943,000 worth of cocaine through a checkpoint.

It happened Wednesday on Interstate 8, near Spot Road.

A 64-year-old man was sent to secondary inspection after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted officers to his Ford Expedition.

It was then that agents found 14 packages of cocaine in the vehicle's doors.

The driver, a Mexican citizen, was legally in the United States with Lawful Permanent Resident status.

The man and drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
