Firefighters battling fire at Island Lake on Colorado River

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) - More than 500 acres of land are consumed by a fire burning on the Arizona side of the Colorado River, known as Island Lake. 

As of this morning, the blaze is 5 percent contained according to a fire information officer.

Firefighters began battling the fire yesterday afternoon around 1:00 pm.

There are currently more than 50 personnel out on scene, including fire engines, two fire boats, one law enforcement boat and a helicopter.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. 

The fire is moving upstream at this time and is only accesible by the Colorado River. Firefighters are preparing for a burnout operation along the northern side of the fire to protect Norton's Landing, which is a private inholding on Imperial National Wildlife Refuge.
