YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) - Local first responders were honored at a ceremony this morning to kick off National Emergency Medical Services week.

Jordan Bowers, an emergency medical technician with Yuma Fire Department, was awarded 'EMT of the Year' for helping out his team and maintaining his cool in even the toughest emergency situations.

Bowers tells 13 On Your Side it feels great to be recognized.

"I just got recognized for what I do on a day-to-day basis. Maybe it could have been one call, it could have been multiple calls I did good on."

Bowers is one of six first responders awarded at the ceremony by Mayor Al Krieger.

The City also recognized Ashley Taylor, Araceli Pimentel, Brian Wolgamot, Alex Urzua and Dustin Gray.

Taylor is an emergency medical dispatcher with Yuma Fire Department who has the lowest overall call processing time and is consistently handling the most calls overall.

Pimentel is an emergency medical dispatcher and EMT for Rural Metro Fire Department who stepped up to fill an important position when the dispatch team was in lack of one team member.

Rural Metro Fire's Brian Wolgamont is an EMT whom his department says gives no less than 100%.

Yuma Fire Department's Alex Urzua and Rural Metro's Dustin Gray were awarded Paramedic of the Year.

13 On Your Side wants to thank all Yuma Fire Department and Rural Metro paramedics, EMT's and emergency medical dispatchers for their service and dedication to our community.
