Closures on Colorado River due to Island Lake fire

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – We have some closures to tell you about.

Due to the fire burning more than 3,200 acres, the Picacho State Recreation Area has been closed for public safety reasons.

Also, all shorelines, side channels, backwaters and lakes on the Colorado River between Island Lake and Catfish Cove are closed.

The main river channel, however, is open

The closures are in effect until further notice.

Even though the wildfire is contained, the ground and burnt land is very hot. Fire can smolder underground for several weeks, and smoldering stump holes can cause severe burns.

13 On Your Side will continue to provide the latest updates for you as they become available.
