Deputies to toughen boating enforcement over Memorial Day weekend

 

YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with other local law enforcement agencies to put more patrol out on the water for Memorial Day weekend to keep people safe.

They are especially increasing patrol to be on the look out for people drinking and driving boats.

Other common boating violations include:

1. Not having enough life jacks on board for everyone
2. Lack of fire extinguisher on board
3. Riding on the bow, transom, or gunwales of a boat
4. Operating under the influence
5. Speeding
6. No throwable floating device
7. Children under 12 years of age not wearing a life jacket
8. Reckless driving
9. Lights not properly working
10. Water-skiing without an observer
