Family still seeking answers after daughter's fatal shooting

Posted:

Yuma, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) - "I love her, this really hurts," said Rigo Silva, father of Jennifer Silva.

Rigo has no words to describe what it's like to lose a daughter. It' something he never imagined he would face in his lifetime.

"You always think you're going to go first, and when it's your kid it's very hard," said Rigo.

Jennifer was found shot in her Yuma apartment on May 14th.

Yuma police say 34-year-old Dorthy Martin shot her, but they have not charged her in Silva's death because police say they are still investigating what lead up to the shooting.

Meanwhile her family still can't believe the reality of this tragedy.

She was a daughter, a sister and a person that many deeply cared about.

Today, three weeks later, her family is still looking for closure.

"I want some answers," said Rigo.

Rigo says the family can not cremate and bury Jennifer until the investigation is over because her body may have evidence that could help solve the case.

13 On Your Side contacted Yuma Police to find out where they are with the investigation, they say they are still following leads and waiting on lab results.

Once everything is gathered they will forward the information to the County Attorney's Office.

Rigo says he's praying justice will be served and for now he will try to remember the good times he had with his loving daughter Jennifer.

Again, this is an open investigation.

Police are asking for anyone with information regarding the deadly shooting to please contact them or call 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
