Border patrol agents bust driver with $665,000 worth in meth

SALTON CITY, Calif. – Border Patrol agents in the El Centro Sector busted a drug smuggler with more than $665,000 worth of drugs hidden in her SUV.

It happened Friday at around noon, at the Highway 86 checkpoint between Westmorland and Salton City.

A 23-year-old woman was driving her SUV through the checkpoint when a Border Patrol drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to the presence of drugs.

During an inspection of her car, agents found 16 wrapped packages of methamphetamines hidden inside a compartment under the SUV's back seat.

The meth had a total weight of 20.8 pounds with an estimated street value of more than $665,000.

The woman, who was a citizen of Mexico with a B1/B2 Visa Border Crosser card, was arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
