Charges filed against Sen. Shooter in school case

Posted:

PHOENIX (AP) - The City Prosecutor in Yuma has filed three misdemeanor charges against Arizona state Sen. Don Shooter for an incident where he confronted his grandson's teacher in a classroom.

Shooter was charged Friday with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and interference or disruption of an educational institution.

Shooter had said earlier this week his lawyer was working on a plea agreement to resolve the case. He declined to comment Friday and referred questions to his attorney. Lawyer Ed Novak wasn't immediately available.

The charges stem from a March 22 incident at the grandson's charter high school. The Republican who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee has said he wanted to talk to his grandson's teacher because she had been bullying the teenager.

The senator never touched the teacher or any students.
