YUMA, Ariz. (13 On Your Side) – American troops serving in Afghanistan got a special visit from a pair of U.S. Senators.

Republican Senator John McCain and Senator Lindsey Graham visited the troops today.

They led a re-enlistment ceremony for about six troops.

McCain, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said he was hopeful the United States and our allies would soon reach an agreement on troop levels after 2014.

Yet Afghanistan's president has temporarily suspended talks on the matter.

During that re-enlistment ceremony, one of our very own was honored by the Arizona Senator.

21-year-old Yuma native Anthony Alcala was presented with an Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM).

The Army Commendation Medal is presented for sustained acts of heroism or service.

Alcala's mother tells 13 On Your Side he enlisted right after graduating from Cibola High School.

He was deployed in November, and the family is anxiously awaiting his return to Yuma next month.

Alcala's grandfather, Tony Alcala Sr., is a Vietnam veteran. He is extremely proud his grandson is following in his footsteps.
